ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD
For our Peter Pan-inspired game, the story begins when Peter Pan crashes into the Darling residence and becomes separated from his shadow. As Peter and Wendy explore the house in search of the missing shadow and Tinker Bell, the familiar environment becomes an important part of the gameplay and puzzle-solving experience.
My role in the project was to develop the environment art reference board. I researched early-1900s architecture and interiors to establish the visual identity of the Darling residence, focusing on elements such as antique fireplaces, large windows, iron beds, furniture, patterned wallpaper, and other period-specific materials. To connect these realistic references with our chosen art style, I also studied the dark environments, atmospheric lighting, and color language of Hollow Knight.
The final art board combines warm and familiar elements of an early-1900s home with cool moonlight, foggy London imagery, deep shadows, and magical blue tones. This research helps establish the overall mood and visual direction of the game, creating an environment that feels both familiar and mysterious while supporting Peter and Wendy’s journey through the Darling residence.
